Emily Shore grew up in western Massachusetts, where she studied classical violin for ten years. She fell in love with the guitar at age 16 and has dedicated herself to that instrument ever since. She studied guitar, voice, theory and composition at Amherst College and has been teaching guitar in the Bay Area since she moved here in 1999.
She currently teaches at Blue Bear School of Music and at the SF Friends School. Emily has also worked with youth as a sports coach, classroom teacher and health outreach worker. The daughter of two teachers, Emily has a passion for tapping into each student's unique goals and learning styles.
She encourages students to choose songs they would like to play, and then adapts her curriculum to these songs. Parent feedback has consistently been that this approach leads their child to frequent sessions of spontaneous practicing!
Emily is currently working on her second studio solo album, has several band projects, and works as a side guitarist for several singer-songwriters in Berkeley. Erika Luckett describes Emily's music as "Jazz harmonies, tight melodies, dexterous guitar playing and great storytelling." Emily maintains her own website at www.EmilyShore.com. She is also an acupuncture student, studying to help musicians with repetitive stress injuries regain their health and dexterity.
